Default Coliseum...

Even if you know noting about roman history, you know the Romans had Gladiator Matches, often these were 1 versus 1 fights, and other times they would be repmakes of battles that really happened... at one point the colseum was suposedly able to be filled with water for Mock naval battles! And since theres gladiator armor in the game... i believe we are missing something, especialy since we have an area called "Battle Isles"

You guessed it... A roman type arena Ingame, were Players could duke it out against each other while players in the grandstands watched... yea yea yea, alot of people say that 1 class would own or something and the games not balanced that way, simple all fights are 1 class versus the same class, or make it a warrior only zone, have a waiting area you can enter and each battle is either a 1v1 fight, Skirmish 4v4 , beasts (a bunch of like bears or trolls or lions are released into the arena) 8 v 8 and FreeForAll, tournements could be hosted in this arena and gail and the frog could do there announcments and chats in the arena, make sitting possible so when you enter the grandstands your given a random seat unless your in a group invich that group is seated together... it'd be fun to be in and to watch! mabey make it cost something to watch or join to provide a money sink.
(note this is one battle at a time per district, it isnt like the Random or team arenas or HA were hundreds of teams could be pvping at once, if theres 3 districts were the coliseum is placed then theres only 3 battles going on.)

personaly i wouldnt mind hangin with some guildies while some players in the arena rip themselves to shreds

I love the idea but...
This will foster solo warrior builds, 55 monk builds and such in this arena, so the real challenge is who can strip enchants the fastest and attack before they come back up...
Not quite a test of skill
It's not like we don't see enough of these solo builds in random anyway

Meh. 55 monks are chicken-****. I took one down in random arena. It was down to me and him. He couldn't hurt me at all, and in the 0.75 seconds between his Prot Spirit castings, I dished out 110 damage and he went splat. Seriously, 55 monks are pointless unless you're farming a non-mesmer, non-necro zone, or someplace retardedly easy like Ascalon. Any class can drop a 55monk, no sweat, especially casters.

As for fostering certain builds, there is a counter for every possible build in the game. You just have to figure it out first.

/sign. There's a lot of mouthy losers I'd like to challenge to a duel, just to put them in their place. Great idea.

I like the free for all idea.. How about.

The coliseum would be a generic style roman catholic one. It'd be one entire zone, but there would be safe zones, the area where the crowd could sit = safe zone, underchambers = safe zone, anywhere outside of the battle circle pretty much. Anyways this would deify the whole instanced concept of GW, but people would be able to run into the combat circle on their own will, in a party or solo. There would be a number of sideline gates with randomized mob spawns at random times during the day. This has a lot of negative effects like side line fighting, in which you run in cast then run back. To fix that people in safe zone can't target people in the combat area, and people who run in cannot attack until they reach the center of the combat circle.

If it were instanced, then simply just allow people to watch battles.

I dont agree with the idea of a small amount of coliseums. Can you imagine how long the wait would be if you were one of 1,000s waiting to get in one of 3 arenas?

Well think of it this way, it's like trying to "counter" iway except you'll have to do these pvp solo builds. So now as a warrior, you'll have to counter the many griffon farming builds in which you'll have to sub around 3 of your skills just to beat him. Same with 55, monks will have to bring mesmer/necro damage to do indirect damage to counter the prot spirit as there is no enchant removal for monk

So you want me to make my build just a counter? I can't use a standalone build vs the other guy's standalone build to test who has a better skill set? I guess i'll just bring empathy and signet of midnight on my warrior to "counter" these gladiators.

although 100's of districts isnt the solution for mere 1v1 battles, I think a colliseum is a great idea, and observers to the collesum could decide which match they want to watch, however every district should do something or the other of having matches queued. IE: one battle is going on in the middle, a timed match, 5 minutes maximum for 1v1, and so on for larger matches. But in the sidelines or in an underzone are the next groups waiting to fight. I dont think u should get to pick who u are going up against because that destroys the feeling of a colliseum
